Hi,
Had my first infusion at ashford middlesex today, arrived at 8.45am, had to supply a urine sample to be analysed before starting, then a pre-med which needed an hour, before being plugged in about 10am-ish to the ritixumab,was given a wonderfull electric reclining seat, one of about 8 or so, in their new infusion suit.
The nurses station overlooks the process and every half hour, an alarm sounds to notify a blood pressure and temperature check. This came with the offer of tea or sandwiches and a well being overview, they gave me a selection of donated dvds with player and headphones.
I was eventually unplugged at 4.30pm and spent most of the time drifting in and out of sleep, I did'nt experience any adverse reactions and due to a steroid input actually feel fantastic.

It sounds as if you received five star treatment - you have a very good hospital. I am glad the Rituximab went well and you start to feel some relief soon.

I tried it last year but unfortunately I had a severe reaction to it. I was put in a side room and I had to ring the nurses to remind them to check on me. I arrived at 7.30 a.m. but they did not get started until 9.00 a.m. They gave me a bit of toast and a cup of tea and that was the most comfort I got all day. There was a lady in the next room who was obviously not very well and moaned very loudly throughout. After the very bad reaction, when I actually had to ring for a nurse to say something was not right, once they had finished running around after me and got the reaction under control, the shift changed, and I had to ring to remind them I should be discharged.

So you did really well and I hope that your next one is just as good.

I quite agree, bring on the holidays ThumpUp

Steve, I'm glad you had a positive experience. Your post would reassure me if I was going to have it too. Jackie, it's a shame your experience wasn't so good. It just goes to show how standards vary in the NHS. xx

Hello Steve, I see you are a new member, so welcome to the forum.

Glad to see that it went off so well, you really were looked after well. It's a pity that it's not the same in every hospital after reading what Jackie posted about her experience.

Have you thought of doing a blog in the blog section? I started one when I first went on to Enbrel. I think that if anyone now or in the future wanting to know information about different drugs and the procedures involved could find it all useful. The nurses tell us about various drugs, but I think personal stories from individuals can give lots of reassurance to something that can sound scary.

Hope you feel the benefit soon.

hello Steve,

just wanted to welcome you aboard.

that's great to hear that all went well for you with your infusion and that you were looked after so well. sadly that isn't the case for many.

fortunately my hospital give's me first classs service, and my Rheumy Nurse is fantastic ( just a phone call away if i need her )

and agree with Paula, why not start a blog .. i did one when i went on Humira in 2011, it's helpful for other's about to start.

do keep posting and hope to hear thing's are still going well for you,

Hi Steve

That is brilliant news, especially that you feel so good.

My hospital is very similar to yours with the RTX infusions, except for the DVDs! But I love my Kindle. Also the Day Ward is so very busy there is so much going on around my chair and quite entertaining/sociable. Some people are sadly very poorly (different illnesses).

Hope you enjoy your hols to the full and good luck with the second infusion - it often doesn't take as long.
